High prices fuel gasoline thefts

RALEIGH

In just the last month, Raleigh police have had five reports and they have already seen at least two incidents this month.

Police tell ABC11 that it's not just drive-offs. A U-Haul location on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh has been hit several times in recent weeks.

An employee said he believes that thieves have been siphoning gasoline out of their trucks.

"Every time we have a truck that we figure out that it's short on gas, people siphon gas off of it, we call the police department. We file a report. We get a report number and we're working with the police and hopefully the police will catch these people," said an unidentified U-Haul employee.

The employee said they have lost hundreds of dollars in gasoline and the thefts are also affecting business.

Raleigh police continue to investigate.
