The North Carolina Highway Patrol said it happened just after 1 a.m. on Emmaus Church Road just east of Dudley.
Troopers said the 17-year-old Marco Antonio Nino was going about 60 miles-per-hour in a 45 zone when he lost control.
Another person in the 2010 Nissan Sentra was hurt. That person's name and age wasn't available.
Troopers said Nino was wearing a seatbelt.
