Wounded soldier comes home to Raleigh

RALEIGH

Cpl. Cody Stanton's return home is the latest chapter in a journey that started back in November with his deployment to Afghanistan with the 21st Military Police Company Airbourne.

On Jan. 26, the 20-year-old was wounded in an improvised explosive device blast. The explosion claimed both of Stanton's legs and sent him to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

"If I can survive getting blown up, the day-to-day stuff is nothing," said Stanton.

Law enforcement officers were on hand to escort Stanton back to his home.

Stanton and his mother will only be home for a week of medical leave before heading back to Maryland for more rehabiliation.

"Just to be home is good enough for me," said Stanton.
