Man charged after shooting during domestic dispute

CUMBERLAND COUNTY

On April 18 around 9:30 p.m., authorities were called to the 5000 block of Southmill Drive in the Kings Mills Subdivision about a dispute.

When police officers arrived, they found 28-year-old James Alexander who had been shot and the 46-year-old shooter, Thomas Kevin Cogburn, still at the scene.

Alexander was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and is still being treated for his injuries. Cogburn was also transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for an injury unrelated to the incident.

Cogburn was arrested Monday after being released from the hospital and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with the intent to kill, as well as discharging a firearm in the city.

Cogburn is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

The incident is still under investigation.
