One person hospitalized after possible stabbing

CARY, N.C.

Police responded to a domestic situation involving a possible stabbing in the 100 block of Ribbon Drive of the Amberwood at Lochmere Apartments Sunday just before 5:45 a.m.

Arriving officers were able to confirm that the suspect was at the residence, said Major Tony Godwin of the Cary Police Department.

"There were three hostages being held," said Maj. Godwin.

Authorities were able to negotiate the release of the hostages, and one of them, a woman, was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

At that point, Maj. Godwin said it became a barricaded situation.

"We had one person in the apartment, and we continued to negotiate with the suspect," said Maj. Godwin.

While the situation was unfolding, nearby apartments were evacuated.

At 8:55 a.m., authorities were able to take the suspect into custody, and he was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted injuries.

Officials have not released the names of those involved but said charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
