He was 70-years-old.
Perry was a 1967 graduate of NCCU and a native of Durham. He played football for the university from 1962-64 and was a member of the 1963 CIAA championship team.
"Coach Perry was a genuine and caring coach, colleague, and friend," said NCCU Director of Athletics Dr. Ingrid Wicker-McCree. "It is extremely sad to lose such a man of his character as he was well-respected by all. He served as a father figure and mentor to each of the young men he coached at NCCU. Coach Perry established great relationships in our community that helped elevate our men's golf program during our NCAA Division I transition. We will miss Coach Perry dearly."
Funeral arrangements were not announced.
