Authorities said 15-year-old Cody Flowers had been in a medically induced coma at Duke Hospital since the accident Saturday night.
Police said Flowers was walking along U.S. Highway 1, near his home in Norlina, when he was struck by a vehicle.
The State Highway Patrol found the vehicle it believes was involved in the hit and run.
At last check, no charges had been filed.
