Angela Almore will serve five months in prison, followed by another two-and-a-half years on probation.
As part of her guilty plea, Almore is barred from working in any health care field or facility.
Prosecutors said Almore gave morphine to patients in the Alzheimer's unit at Britthaven of Chapel Hill.
One patient died and the medical examiner found morphine toxicity contributed to the patient's death.
