Venita Short said she was recently fired after she told the staff she was pregnant.
Short, who is not married, was shocked when a church administrator questioned her about her pregnancy.
"I told her the same thing. I plan to get married one day, but not because I'm pregnant," said Short.
After telling the administrator that she wasn't going to get married before she had the baby, Short said the administrator told her that the daycare committee would have to determine if she could work at the facility or not.
Short said she worked at the church for about a year-and-a-half with good reviews and at least three pay raises.
Short said the unwed pregnancy is her personal business and should have nothing to do with her job. Ironically, before she got fired, Short took care of several children of single parents at the church. That's why she can't understand the church's reason for letting her go.
"They told me I was fired because I am pregnant and I am not married," said Short.
Pastor Ed Wilson did not return calls made by ABC11. Short said she's planning to get an attorney and take the issue to court.
