Cars slam into trees in separate accidents

The first accident happened just before 1 a.m. in the 8500 block of Buffalo Road, near Selma in Johnston County.

Police said a man lost control of his SUV, ran off the road and then slammed into a tree.

The driver and his passenger were taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said they believed speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

About 20 minutes later in Wake County, a driver swerving to miss a deer in the middle of Camp Kanata Road near Wake Forest, lost control and also slammed into a tree.

Rescue crews had to cut open the roof and side of the car to get the two people out. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in that crash, according to authorities.
