Driver charged in Raleigh wreck

RALEIGH

The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. and also shut down Hollyridge Drive.

Police said the driver of a Honda Accord, 46-year-old Shana Barefoot of Parker Street in Raleigh, failed to stop and crashed into an Audi driven by 18-year-old Wisam Al-Dwehji, of Mill Village Road in Raleigh. Al-Dwehji's car then struck Mahmoud Abdelalim as he attempted to cross the road.

Sixty-two-year-old Abdelalim, of Winding Buffle Drive in Raleigh, was listed in critical condition at WakeMed on Sunday.

Bradford Covington was at work across the street, at an auto repair shop, when the accident happened.

"The guy was here trying to get a state-inspection," he said. "He walked across the street, unfortunately that happened."

Police have charged Barefoot with failure to yield and driving without a license.

She and her 14-year-old passenger were treated and released from WakeMed on Saturday.
