Boy hit by car in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE

Police said Darren Minor was hit while riding his bicycle just before 2:30 p.m.

Investigators said he was riding his bike down a hill on Barber Avenue and didn't stop in time at the stop sign at the intersection of Boros Drive and Barber Avenue. The child then struck the front corner of a Honda Accord.

John Hutchings told ABC11 that he saw the accident unfold.

"I turned around and saw the boy in the air hitting the ground," said Hutchings. "He wasn't moving at all and that's what scared us at first. I had my buddy call 911. I checked for a pulse. I got a pulse, ran back got some towels and a blanket then he started breathing, and we knew everything was going to be good after that."

Police said Minor was not wearing a helmet.

He was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital and was last listed in critical condition with head and leg injuries.

Police have not released the identity of the woman motorist. No charges have been filed.
