Two killed in crash on Interstate 95

NASH COUNTY, N.C.

It happened just before 6 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 147 in Nash County.

Authorities said a 1990 Honda Accord driven by 48-year-old Jeanie Davism of Enfield, was stopped on I-95 when a tractor trailer driven by James Myers Jr. of Reading, Pa. hit it.

They said Myers was traveling 68 mph, tried to swerve or stop, but wound up with his truck on top of the Accord. It is unclear why the Honda had stopped.

Davis and her passenger, 26-year-old Sharonda Hendricks, of Roanoke Rapids, died in the crash.

No charges have been filed at this time. Officials are currently awaiting toxicology reports.

The accident shut down both lanes of I-95 for more than an hour as officials cleared the scene.
