Man accused of flashing shoppers

RALEIGH

Police said John Benton exposed himself Monday in the parking lot of the Lowes Foods on Millbrook Road at Capital Boulevard. Two women said they saw Benton sitting in a van exposing himself.

When officers arrived, however, they couldn't locate the distinctive van described by the victims.

On Tuesday, police managed to arrest Benton.

A north Raleigh woman, who said she was one of the victims who witnessed the flashing on Monday, talked to ABC11.

"I think that they have a serious problem," said Veronica Smith. "There is something definitely wrong with an individual that is sitting in a parking lot, broad daylight where there's not a lot of cars, committing an act like that."

Benton has been arrested before for indecent exposure. He's also been convicted of child abuse. Because of that, a judge raised his bond from $1,000 to $5,000 Wednesday.
