Family apologizes for DWI suspect

RALEIGH

The say those deep rooted personal issues have led to David Coker Jr.'s two DWI charges and now a murder charge for a deadly DWI Saturday morning.

"David's a good guy and a good person but, like a lot of us, he has some issues and he's had a very difficult time since he lost his fiancé," said Coker's attorney John K. Fanney.

Coker allegedly hit and killed an African immigrant, 42-year-old Kossivi Gadegbeku, and injured his passenger, 32-year-old Laura Galdamez, near the intersection of T.W. Alexander and Glenwood Avenue.

Coker was wheeled into a courtroom Wednesday afternoon to face second degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon charges.

Coker's attorney said his family is sorry.

"The family… they express their deepest condolences to the Gadegbeku and Galdamez families for their losses," said Fanney.

Coker is being held on a $500,000 bond and will be back before a judge later this month for his next court date.
