Morrisville bans guns in parks

MORRISVILLE, N.C.

Tuesday's vote came in response to a state law that expanded the areas where people can legally carry concealed handguns. Under the law that was passed in 2011, the areas include local parks and greenways.

However, lawmakers gave local officials the option of banning weapons in municipal and county recreational facilities.

Signs will be posted to indicate where concealed weapons are now restricted.

The areas in Morrisville where the ban will take place is the Morrisville Community Park, Morrisville Aquatics and Fitness Center,  Shiloh Park, Cedar Fork Community Center, Crabtree Creek Nature Park, and Indian Creek Greenway Trailhead.
