Police charge 10 in Durham drug roundup

DURHAM, N.C.

During the last three weeks of August, investigators conducted nine controlled buys targeting sales of crack cocaine.

On Aug. 31, officers concluded the operation by executing search warrants at residences on Barton and Cecil Streets. Officers also served a search warrant at a third location but not find any drugs.

Officers recovered 240 Hydrocodone pills, drug paraphernalia and cash from the home on Barton Street. They arrested Patrick Randy Smith, 47, and charged him with trafficking in schedule one narcotics, possession of cocaine with to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school, two counts of possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, two counts of maintaining a dwelling for drug sales, sale and delivery of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Smith was placed in Durham County Jail under a $1 million bond.

Officers recovered pills and drug paraphernalia at the home on Cecil Street and arrested 50-year-old Terry Wayne Thompson on two counts of possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for drug sales and possession of drug paraphernalia. Thompson's bond was set at $10,000.

Investigators also made the following arrests:

  • Aaron Fitzgerald Stone, 47, of Orchard Way, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, sale and delivery of cocaine, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine and possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school.
  • Raymond Dixon, 43, of Ashe Street, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, sale and delivery of cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for drug sales.
  • Marsha Bynum, 51, of North Hyde Park Avenue, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, sale and delivery of cocaine, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Wallace Jones, 39, of Sargent Place, is wanted for possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver, sell/deliver cocaine, conspiracy to sell/deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a park

Investigators are still looking for the following people:

  • Nathan Edwards, 17, of Dayton Street, is wanted on two counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver and two counts of sale and deliver marijuana
  • John Webb, 39, of Barton Street, is wanted on two counts each of possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, sale of cocaine, delivery of cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for drug sales and possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a school. He is also wanted for conspiracy to sell cocaine and conspiracy to deliver cocaine
  • Dominique Diaz, 19, of Maple Street, is wanted for possession of marijuana with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and sale/delivery of marijuana
  • Shanell Alston, 19, of Ridgeway Avenue, is wanted for possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and sale/delivery of cocaine
