Teen survives being hit by car in Raleigh

Police said Tavia Jay Moore was waiting at the intersection of Garner Road and Chris Street around 6:30 a.m. for her school bus to take her to Southeast Raleigh High School, when a school bus stopped at the intersection to pickup students for Athens Drive High School.

They said Moore mistakenly believed the Athens Drive bus was the one she needed to catch, so she crossed Garner Road to get to the bus. When she realized it wasn't the right bus, she did not get on.

After the bus pulled away, Moore began to cross back over to the other side of the street and was struck by a vehicle going north on Garner Road.

An eyewitness said the driver was frantic after Moore bounced through the car's windshield.

"I went over to the car -- the little girl was conscious," said Stacey Christon. "Her head and her shoulders were inside of the windshield and her legs were hanging outside of the windshield."

Police have not filed any charges.

Moore was taken to WakeMed with non life-threatening injuries. She was last listed in good condition.

An investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
