State Senate candidate arrested on drug charges

NASH COUNTY, N.C.

The Nash County Sheriff's Office arrested 54-year-old Clarence Bender, of Castalia, on charges of selling prescription narcotics.

The sheriff's office investigated Bender for two months and allegedly bought more than 100 pills from him.

Bender, who is currently a commissioner in the town of Castalia, is being held in the Nash County Jail on a $300,000 bond.

His first court appearance is Friday.

Bender is also currently a candidate for North Carolina Senate in District 11.
