It happened at a Hess station around 8 p.m. in the 4500 block of Jones Sausage Road, near exit 303, off Interstate 40.
Police said an unknown male walked into the store and shot 37-year-old Jeffrey Murray, of Garner.
Murray suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect took the victim's wallet and fled the scene on foot.
