A 911 call about a possible drowning in the Neuse River Tuesday night may have been a hoax.

Responders were called to Willow Bluff Drive near I-540 and Buffaloe Road around 10 p.m. after a caller told a 911 operator that they heard voices yelling out on the greenway..

Firefighters checked the river, but found no sign of anyone in trouble and the search was called off.

Authorities are now investigating the call as a possible hoax.
