The proposed assignment plan is based on maps the district used in the 2011-12 school year.
The draft plan offers continued stability with a base assignment for every student tied to his or her home address. It also proposes minimal reassignments and the option for students to remain in their current schools.
The first public hearing about the plan got heated when Republican School Board Member Deborah Prickett started to ask the crowd if they were satisfied with the controlled-choice plan that's being phased out for next school year.
Before she could finish, Democratic School Board Member Susan Evans pulled the microphone out of Prickett's hand, saying it was an inappropriate question.
There will be two other public hearings about the plan next Monday and Wednesday as listed below.
