Deputies surrounded 58-year-old Joe Byrd's house in the 6500 block of Hilltop Road in Willow Spring Sunday for over five hours trying to talk him out. When a SWAT team finally moved in, they found no one inside.

Authorities are still trying to figure out what led Joe Byrd to shoot his 27-year-old son, Michael Byrd, in the ankle.
Wake County Sheriff Donny Harrison said after Michael Byrd got treatment for his gunshot wound, he was released from the hospital. He also said the son did not want to cooperate with authorities.
Joe Byrd is being held on a secured bond of $27,500.
