Mangum, who is known as the false accuser from the Duke Lacrosse case, is accused of fatally stabbing her former boyfriend Reginald Daye. She is currently acting as her own attorney in the case.
Friday morning, Mangum asked a judge to release her on bond.
The judge delayed a hearing on her request, but did agree to let Mangum out of jail at times in protective custody, so she can have access to evidence and prepare her defense.
Mangum is scheduled to appear back in court January 22.
