Man killed in deputy-involved shooting

A man was killed early Saturday morning in a deputy-involved shooting in Johnston County, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials received a call around 1 a.m. of two people fighting on Richardson Road in Zebulon.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they said 32-year-old Robert Lamont Barnes was armed and swinging a machete at deputies. He was shot and killed.

As in all officer-involved shootings, the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave with pay. The North Carolina SBI was contacted and agents were investigating this incident.
