AAA Carolinas says more than two and a half million people in North Carolina are hitting the roads this holiday season, with six percent of North Carolinians planning to getaway by air.

With promises of presents and seeing that special someone, Raleigh Durham International Airport has been very busy.

On Sunday, RDU officials tweeted that some of their parking areas were already full.

However for some travelers, a major winter storm is impacting flights on the West Coast to the Midwest. The snow is creating big delays for airports all the way to Raleigh.

Meanwhile on the roadways, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has suspended major road construction in an effort to ease holiday traffic congestion.

Though, the NCDOT says motorists should still expect delays between noon and 7 p.m. on interstates and other major roadways.
