Wake County Schools told ABC11 the gun was found on 17-year-old Demetrius Donte Brown after an investigation following a disturbance at the school cafeteria Thursday morning.
Officials do not believe there was a threat of harm to anyone on campus, but it is still unclear if the gun was loaded.
A school resource officer who is also a Raleigh police officer, arrested Brown. He is charged with possession of a stolen firearm, having a gun on educational property, carrying a concealed gun, possession of marijuana, and resisting an officer.
Athens Drive principal William Crockett emailed a letter and will also make a call to all parents letting them know about the incident.
