Duke mascot head put on stake at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.

In one of the legendary pranks the two schools are known to play on each other, someone took the head of the Duke mascot and placed it on a stake above the UNC campus store Wednesday.

The head was quickly taken down, but not before pictures began circulating on social media sites.

A spokesperson for Duke confirmed that the mascot head was stolen and found on the UNC campus. Bookstore manager Kyle McKay tweeted a picture of himself posing with the head and the text, "Cops came and picked it up."

Sources at UNC tell us police took custody of the head and are investigating. They returned it to Duke Wednesday afternoon.

Duke officials told ABC11 the mascot head stolen was actually their spare.

The Blue Devils will certainly be looking for revenge tonight at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The game starts at 9 p.m. on ESPN.
