New information about home invasion suspects

RALEIGH

New details about a month long crime spree involving two brothers were released Monday.

Many automatically assumed it was the older brother who may have influenced the young brother. However, according to the timeline laid out in the grand jury indictments just handed down, it may be the other way around.

Shabar Marshall is just 16-years-old, which is barely old enough to be tried as an adult. His older brother Jahaad is 26-years-old.

They were arrested just minutes after a middle-of-the-night home invasion last month in Raleigh's historic Oakwood neighborhood. The woman who lives there was attacked. Her husband came to her aid. He was shot in the back and paralyzed.

Now, indictments handed down by the Wake County Grand jury show a month long crime spree that began with an early December break-in in North Raleigh.

A woman, home alone at night, was robbed and terrorized, according to the indictment. In that crime, investigators have charged only the younger brother, Shabar Marshall.

Both brothers were charged two weeks later with two middle-of-the-night robberies not far from the first one and right across the street from each other. A handgun was among the property allegedly stolen that night.

Then, four days later, there was another middle-of-the-night home invasion, also not far away in North Raleigh. A couple at that address was robbed and handcuffed to their bed. The Marshall brothers are accused of stealing another handgun in that robbery.

No one was physically injured in any of those crimes. However, a week later in Oakwood - the home invasion became especially violent.

The Marshall brothers are accused of entering the home of Jason Beyer. In the brutal home invasion, the suspects shot Beyer in the back when he tried to stop an attack on his wife. That shooting left Beyer paralyzed from the waist down.
