3-state bank robbery spree ends in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE

The spree ended Tuesday after a robbery at the Carter Bank and Trust near the intersection of Rosehill Road and Country Club Drive in Fayetteville.

Shortly before 2:45 p.m., police said a man walked into the bank and handed the teller a note. After taking an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled on foot.

A firefighter who was in the area noticed the suspect fleeing, then saw him get into a black vehicle and drive away.

Police officers were able to catch up with the vehicle and began a pursuit.

The car finally came to a stop near the College Lakes Recreation Center and two people inside ran off on foot.

After a brief chase, police officers apprehended both suspects and took them into custody.

Police later charged 30-year-old Louis Joseph Spano and 34-year-old Russell Fredrick Culbreth with common law robbery and conspiracy in connection with the bank robbery. Both have been placed in jail under a $25,000 bond.

Through their investigation, authorities learned Culbreth was also wanted on bank robbery charges in Virginia and West Virginia.

They also learned that 19-year-old Nereida Jade Marie Ferrer, who was in Fayetteville with Culbreth, was also wanted on charges in connection with the bank robbery in West Virigina. She was later taken into custody at a Fayetteville hotel.
