The NC DOT has shut down a portion of Strickland Bridge Road for a year, and a long detour is now in place as the actual bridge is being replaced.

Some Fayetteville residents said what is more frustrating than the re-routing is that they were not aware the changes were coming.
"There was no notification. It was just sprung on us," Fayetteville resident Tracey Darby said. "We got a call from the school Monday afternoon because they had just started to re-route all the buses and there was no mention as to why they were re-routing the buses."
Darby said her children now get home half an hour later than usual. She said her husband's commute to Fort Bragg has become a nightmare, and a simple trip to the store is one to think twice about.
Another resident said she even tried calling city officials to find out information regarding the closure, but to no avail.
"I've been trying to call, but there's no answers. They can't tell us anything," resident Jada Smith said.
A DOT representative from Raleigh told ABC11 they did in fact notify residents; however, many residents may not remember the newsletter notification about the project because it went out in 2009 when they first started a discussion about the project.
On Feb. 21, the DOT updated its traveler information system on the website to explain the closure. Then a press release went out on Feb. 26. The newspaper also ran two stories as late as March 2.
