Three lawmakers filed a bill called the "Commonsense Consumption Act" Tuesday that would prohibit cities and counties from limiting how large a big soft drink can be.
The bill takes a swipe at New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's effort to limit giant sugar drinks for health reasons.
House Bill 683 would also protect food manufacturers from being sued over weight gain, obesity, or other conditions stemming from long-term consumption.
"Obesity is much more complex than the number of soft drinks someone drinks but if someone does become obese while drinking soft drinks," said one of the bill's sponsors, Rep. Brian Brown, (R) Pitt County. "It's not the size of the cups fault."
Mississippi already passed what they called an "Anti-Bloomberg Law."
