Funeral held for bus crash victim killed in Virginia

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.

Last week, Doval, 58, and his wife, Theresa Watson, chaperoned a bus trip for teenagers from Chapel Hill and Henderson to Hampton University in Virginia.

The bus crashed in Virginia, throwing Theresa from the vehicle. Doval died at the scene.

The six teens on the bus were OK, but Theresa continues to recover from the injuries.

Investigators said the driver lost control, ran off the right side of the road, and overturned in a ditch.

The Durham-Chapel Hill Chapter of the Hampton University Alumni Association said the Watsons chartered the bus. They organize an annual trip for local middle and high school students to tour the Hampton University campus.

Family members said Teresa will most likely continue the college trips to fulfill her husband's passion and their life's work.

"She may not take a bus trip but I feel certain that she's going to continue it," said Regina Merritt, Teresa's sister. "Because that's what they started doing and I think they end up finishing."

Many who attended the funeral wore royal blue paying homage to Hampton University's school colors and Doval's alma mater.

Doval's funeral was held at the Chapel Hill Bible Church.
