The student told police he was approached by a man asking for money Saturday night just after 9:30 p.m. The student said when he told the man he didn't have any money, the man pulled out a knife.
The student gave the robber cash and he said the suspect ran toward Hillsborough Street.
The student was not injured.
The suspect is described as a black man in his 40s about 6 feet tall with a slim build. He has gray facial hair and was wearing a red jacket and blue cargo pants.
