Marine officials said Tuesday they have decided to cancel Camp LeJeune's annual 4th of July celebration because of the federal budget cuts also known as the sequester.

Base leaders said the cancellation is necessary to minimize the effect of the cuts.

"Our continued support to the operating forces, our Wounded Warriors and our families always comes first," said Brig. Gen. Thomas Gorry.

Gorry said Marine Corps Community Services, with help from local sponsors, will offer a number of free activities that day to all active duty personnel, retirees and their family members, including golf, bowling, skeet shooting, archery, and free movies at the base theater.
