Frightening moments for local family with ties to Oklahoma

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C.

Marie and Royce Collins finally received a text from their son, Craig, saying that he had survived the EF-4 tornado that struck Monday afternoon.

At first, Marie though Craig, who is retired from the Navy, was lost in the devastation.

"I just knew he was gone," she said. "It's just a feeling you get."

They tried calling their Craig at first, but there was no answer.

It turned out that Craig evacuated just in time -- taking his three pets with him.

His family still has not been able to talk to him outside of a text message every so often.

Craig is spending the night in his car in a strip mall parking lot with several other stranded people almost an hour south of Moore.
