Rabies alert in Cary

CARY, N.C.

The man was attacked while walking his dog on the greenway last Friday. He said the fox darted out of the woods

The fox is still on the loose. So authorities aren't positive that it is rabid. However, they say it is a strong possibility based on how it was acting.

As a precaution, the man attacked is receiving treatment for rabies.

If you see an animal acting suspiciously, call animal control. Experts say it is also very unusual for foxes to approach humans

This latest encounter comes after a string of attacks last summer when there were three confirmed rabies cases in Cary.

One of the most frequent ways humans are infected with rabies, according to an official, is through their pets.

The town is hosting a rabies clinic to help ease worries and make sure your pet's vaccinations are current.
