Woman is latest robbery victim on American Tobacco Trail

DURHAM

A young woman was mugged around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday while rollerblading along the popular trail near Otis Street. Police say a man armed with a gun approached the woman and took her phone.

"I was riding my rollerblades down the trail, and he pointed a gun at me, took my phone off my arm, and said 'Shut up,' and just took my phone and just ran," the victim told 911 operators.

Emergency workers checked out the victim, who apparently ran to a nearby house for help. She appeared to have cuts on her knees, but was otherwise okay.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 30s, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing approximately 130 pounds. He was wearing a black t-shirt, red Adidas sneakers and a black doo-rag.

The latest attack happened in the same area where a man was attacked while jogging earlier this month.

There have been a series of incidents along the trail in recent months. Surveillance cameras were installed, signs were put up and officers are doing more patrols.

Anyone with information about the latest incident is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200.
