Raleigh police search for driver in fatal hit-and-run

RALEIGH, N.C.

Raleigh police responded to Pettigrew Street concerning a report of a pedestrian-involved traffic collision around 9:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found 26-year-old Dwight Emory Smith in the roadway. He died after being transported to WakeMed.

It is believed Smith was lying on the pavement when he was struck by a vehicle that did not remain at the scene.

Police are trying to identify and locate both the vehicle and its driver.
