It happened around 1:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of Old Stage Road, in the Willow Spring community.
Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison tells ABC11 they are looking for two men who knocked on the door and then shot the unidentified girl when she answered it. Her 32-year-old father, Andrew Bass, was also shot before the two suspects ran fled the scene.
"One of them had a do rag on; one of them had a gray jacket," Harrison said. "That's the only description we have at this time."
Authorities believe the suspects had some connection to the victims, and they are hoping Bass will be able to provide them with more information that will lead to their arrests.
Bass suffered non-life threatening injuries, and was released Wednesday afternoon from WakeMed. His daughter remains hospitalized with unknown injuries.
Authorities are still searching for the men responsible, but they think Bass knew his attackers.
"I think there were some connections somewhere," said Harrison. "That's my experience and from what I've heard and what I've seen out here, I don't think it was a random act."
The sheriff did say they responded to a break in at the father's address before in 2011, although he doesn't believe anyone was injured at that time.
They also say the girl did not live with her father. She was just visiting.
