North Carolina unemployment ticks up

RALEIGH

The number is a slight uptick of 0.1 of a percentage point from June's revised rate. The national rate declined to 7.4 percent from June's 7.6 percent

The state's jobless rate had been falling for four straight months as the economy showed slow improvement.

North Carolina remains stuck with the country's fifth-highest unemployment rate behind Nevada, Illinois, Mississippi and Rhode Island.
