Broken A/C leaves Fayetteville woman fuming

FAYETTEVILLE

Lottie Shifflett's window unit stopped working in May. Since she had a warranty, she thought it would be repaired pretty quickly.  However, months later she was still waiting.

Shifflett has been through a lot of headaches.

"I'll tell you that stuff made me so nervous I could hardly sleep anymore," said Shifflett. "It started acting up. All the lights went out, and an explosion and I said 'My goodness!"

The unit is under warranty through Sears.

"So when they came and he looked at it and he said 'I can't fix this," said Shifflett.

Lottie says another technician came out from Sears and he still couldn't fix it.

"So they had to for almost three weeks look for parts. No parts," said Shifflett. "So the repairman said 'Oh, don't worry,' he said. They have to give you a new one.'"

She went to Sears and picked out a new window unit

"They brought the new air conditioner in, but they still couldn't fix it right, because it was a bad air conditioner and you couldn't cut it off because it was messing up the doors," said Shifflett.

Shifflett's daughter, Linda Levasa, took video to show that when the unit's on it doesn't work right.

"The wall was shaking, pictures were wobbling," said Shifflett. "Linda kept calling Sears but says it got them nowhere. Nobody called us. Nobody told us what was going on. I kept trying to call them. Every time I called them I got put on hold, and then they hung up on me. And that's when we said okay that's enough. It's been going on for three months, that's when we called you."

I got in touch with Sears, and on a Sunday a tech installed another new window unit. This one Shifflett says is working like it should.

"I never in my life seen anything like this," said Shifflett. "I'll tell you one thing. I'm so grateful for what you all done. You didn't all realize how much it helped, because we still wouldn't have nothing done with it. They would've found more excuse after another."

Sears did apologize for the troubles.
