North Carolina student debt among lowest in country

RALEIGH, N.C.

Students in North Carolina graduate with among the lowest debt in the country, according to the Triangle Business Journal. When compared to other states, North Carolina ranks 9th in debt.

With student loan debt across the country surpassing credit card debt, there are harsh realities of being a college student right now.

"That's kind of why I chose and in-state school. Like I don't want to leave and have this giant debt," said N.C. State freshman Emma Blondin.

A report from NerdWallet.com shows the average debt a member of the Wolfpack may graduate with is $20,800. It's a good chunk of change, but still something worth celebrating.

Earlier this summer, the House of Representatives agreed to lower interest rates for loans. Just this week, President Obama unveiled a rating system for schools in hopes of better allocating financial aid.
