Louisburg High senior killed in crash

LOUISBURG, N.C.

Thomas Cody Klingensmith, who went by Cody, died in a car crash on his way to school.

Police believe Klingensmith ran off the shoulder, over corrected, and into a kudzu patch. The car caught fire and burned badly, so badly that investigators will need help from a medical examiner to determine his exact cause of death.

Klingensmith was a senior at Louisburg High School and had apparently left home in the middle of the night before the accident happened not far from the development where he lived.

Investigators say his father discovered the crash around 6:20 a.m. Monday morning on his way to work.

Klingensmith's family was too upset to release a statement, but one of his classmates says the Senior Class has lost a good person.

"Cody was a great guy, man.  He was energetic most days.  I remember when we were kids playing baseball together.  He was always a good athlete, hardworking.  It's hard to put it in words, you know, especially now that he's gone," said Louisburg High School Senior Class President Colton Young.

Klingensmith is the second member of the Class of 2014 that Louisburg High School has lost.
