So far, there have been no arrests. Law enforcement isn't sure if one person or multiple people are responsible for these armed robberies, but security measures are being taken to at least try to stay safe.
"I carry this with me when I walk to my car from my apartment," said Raleigh resident Cindy Williams referring to a wooden bat.
Williams and people living at some apartment complexes were notified that management stepped up security patrols after the rash of armed robberies and kidnappings.
In most of the cases, the victims were forced to withdraw money from the ATM at gunpoint.
"I'm scared to death in the morning when I go to work, and when I come home," said Williams.
All five attacks have happened after dark.
The Wake County Sheriff's Office and the Raleigh Police Department are handling the cases. Neither agency, however, is saying the crimes are being committed by the same person. They will only say that there are similarities.
The latest kidnapping and robbery happened Friday right up the road from the Crabtree Valley Mall.
Though it's been a few days since the last attack, Williams feels it's only a matter of time, and until someone's arrested she'll continue to have this by her side.
"People nowadays are bound to do anything if they want something that bad," said Williams.
The Raleigh Police Department says officers are on the looking for suspicious activity in the area.
The North Carolina Bankers Association is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
