When officers arrived at a home in the 400 block of Dudley Avenue, they found 46-year-old Michael Andre Smith suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to UNC Hospital, where he later died. No one else was injured, according to police.
On Christmas Day, police charged 20-year-old Phillip Howard Fortune with first degree murder in connection with Smith's death.
Fortune is being held without bail in the Lee County jail. It's not known if he has an attorney.
