It happened at the Liberty Street Apartments on Commerce Street - which is part of the Durham Housing Authority.
Police said an altercation broke out around midnight and a 54-year-old man was stabbed. A second man was hit on the head. Both were taken to the hospital. The stabbing victim was listed in serious condition.
An investigation was underway.
