Pedestrian hit, killed by Amtrak train in Durham

DURHAM, N.C.

Amtrak said train 75 was traveling between Raleigh and Charlotte when it hit and killed the person around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The incident happened on Neal Road near Hillsborough Road.

There were 80 passengers on board the train, and no passengers or crew members were injured.

Authorities say the man was walking on the tracks at the time of the accident.

Officials are still working to identify the victim.

Police shut down part of Neal Road during their investigation.

The NCDOT said the train fatality would cause NC Amtrak delays for passengers returning from Charlotte and the Panthers game.

Officials said the train from Raleigh to Charlotte was on the move again at 4:25 p.m. but would arrive late. The train leaving Charlotte to Raleigh was expected to leave an hour and 45 minutes late.
