Police said 22-year-old Michael Tavon Tolbert was taken to WakeMed with a gunshot wound to his left calf. Tolbert later died at the hospital.

It is unclear what prompted the shooting. For several hours, authorities interviewed everyone who was inside the club at the time of the shooting.

Police said another individual who is known to have been involved in the incident remained at the scene to await police arrival.

On Friday, police said the state ABC Commission had suspended the Raleigh club permits after the shooting fatality involved club employees and a customer.

Authorities said the business has held ABC permits since October 2011 and has been the reported scene of gunshots, drug violations, and numerous fights since that time.

The suspension is effective immediately until a hearing is held.

The incident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.

Anyone who witnessed events related to the incident and who has not been interviewed by detectives is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department's tip line at (919) 834-HELP.
