Police chase in Mebane ends in double fatal accident in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, N.C.

Mebane police attempted to pull over a suspected drunk driver near the intersection of Buckhorn Road and U.S. 70 early Sunday morning.

The suspect refused to stop, and police began pursuing the suspect around 1:25 a.m.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle briefly, but upon approaching the U.S. 70/ I-85 interchange, they found the vehicle had been involved in a wreck.

Police say three people were in the car. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. They were later identified as Michael Earl Walker Jr., 20, of Hillsborough and Jazzman Vontrazc Jacobs, 28, of Mebane.

One survivor was taken to Duke University Medical Center.

The officers involved in the pursuit have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the administrative investigation, which is standard policy.
